Rev. Dr. Byron L. Benton
The Rev. Dr. Byron LeaVance Benton is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina and a proud graduate of NC A&T University. Pastor Benton completed his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary (Princeton, New Jersey) with a focus on Homiletics and Pastoral Care and has a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Eastern University (Philadelphia, PA).
Pastor Benton's gifts extend beyond the classroom and the sanctuary. He is a gifted percussionist and served as Chaplain of the A&T State University Band. As an undergraduate student, Pastor Benton instructed an urban charter middle school drum line at the Imani Institute in North Carolina. While an Associate Pastor at Berean Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY, Pastor Benton founded the Berean Community Drumline (BCD) through the Berean Community and Family Life Center. The award winning drum line has performed at various venues and events.
Pastor Benton worked closely with public and private organizations having served as Chaplain at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey and Chaplain of the Association of Black Seminarians at Princeton Theological Seminary. He was a founding Board of Director member for the Berean Community Center and Vice President of the Garden on Millbrook in Raleigh, NC. He pastored Berean Baptist Church of Raleigh, NC for nearly seven years before the Lord called him to Mount Moriah. He also served as an assistant instructor in Homiletics and Black Church Studies at Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC.
Pastor Benton is a member of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS) and dedicates his ministry to empowering the people of God. He truly believes in the transformational power of Jesus Christ to change any circumstance and renew all mindsets. Pastor Benton is married to his best-friend and soul-mate, the former Yasmeen Hadaway. They have two daughters, Arianna Brielle and Mayara Marie.
